Mindsparkle: KIND DATE September 29, 2026 EDITOR Mindsparkle Mag Olympic's maritime identity turns on a ring that never quite closes Olympic was founded in 1996 by seafarer and entrepreneur Stig Remøy on Norway's northwest coast, with an original fleet of two offshore vessels and one fishing trawler. Three decades on, the company operates twelve modern subsea and multipurpose vessels with two new builds underway, and holds a strong position across subsea operations and renewable energy.
As it entered its 30th anniversary year, Olympic also delivered its strongest half-year result to date, with revenues exceeding NOK 1.1 billion and EBITDA of NOK 778 million. KIND spent close to two years working with the company's leadership to carry that history into a new brand platform. At the heart of the new position sits a simple observation: Olympic is at its best when operations are at their most complex. Exceptional people and deep technical competence, combined with one of the world's most advanced and sustainable offshore fleets, are what let the company take on the most demanding maritime work.
Together with Olympic's leadership, the studio defined a clearer position around those existing strengths — a leading force in complex maritime operations — with an ambition to reach net zero by 2050 built into the direction. From that strategic foundation the studio developed a unified brand platform, brand identity, communication strategy and behavioural framework. “Conquering Currents” became the overarching concept, built on the idea that change is the law of life and everything is in constant motion.
The dual meaning does the work: currents captures Olympic's ability to master both the forces of nature and the currents of change running through technology, energy and markets. The identity turns on a mark that never quite closes. Four thick arcs describe a circle held inside a rounded square, separated by hairline gaps, so the ring reads as a compass rose, a porthole and a coil of rope at once.
In motion those arcs pull apart into corner brackets and draw back together, which gives the static logo an obvious internal logic and the wider system a sense of constant movement.TT Commons Pro and TT Commons Mono carry the typography, with the monospaced cut reserved for coordinates, technical data and the small print that signals an engineering business. A dynamic layout grid drawn from the mark organises everything from single-line taglines to full-bleed photography of the fleet.
The concept extends through “Navigating with…”, a flexible communication platform connecting innovation, sustainability, people and operational excellence. The print system sets the company's two halves side by side. Offshore and Onshore reports share a format and a cover structure but split down the middle, one showing a crew member on deck, the other a colleague ashore. A set of hardback books and brochures applies the same restrained palette of near-black, warm grey and a single signal red.Internally, “We Are Olympians” translates the same thinking into culture, values and behaviour.
